A2Z Drone Delivery has announced the introduction of its new UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)-based delivery platform, consisting of a multirotor drone equipped with a unique tethered delivery mechanism. The system was developed in response to privacy concerns associated with drone deliveries, as well as issues with intrusive rotor noise and safety issues with spinning rotors close to people on the ground.

A2Z Drone Delivery’s tethered delivery mechanism is currently designed for packages of five pounds or less, and can be mounted on the company’s ICE Flight Platform as well as other delivery drones. The mechanism allows delivery UAVs to maintain a safe hovering distance of up to 400 feet above a target, while the tether provides a controlled freefall for the package, resulting in a safe, accurate delivery. With this approach, consumers and nearby people are kept safe from spinning propellers, and privacy concerns and intrusive noise are mitigated by maintaining sufficient altitude.

Aaron Zhang, founder of A2Z Drone Delivery, commented: “As regulators, delivery businesses and consumers wrangle with the ideal approach to drone deliveries, our platform offers a safe, less-intrusive solution that can be deployed in diverse delivery conditions. Whether flying life-saving medicine to a remote location or dropping an Amazon delivery on the doorstop, our platform can adapt to numerous UAV airframes and payload demands.”
