Septentrio AsteRx-i D UAS GNSS-INS receiver

Septentrio has launched a new GNSS/INS receiver designed specifically for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and drones, AsteRx-i D UAS. The multi-frequency, multi-constellation receiver features a high-performance Analog Devices IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) integrated directly into the board, combining reliable centimeter-level positioning with 3D orientation for reliable automated navigation.

The lightweight AsteRx-i D UAS, with a small form factor and exceptionally low power consumption, is ideal for SWaP (size, weight and power)-constrained UAVs. The minimal footprint of the receiver results in extended battery life and improved flight endurance.

AsteRx-i D UAS is the first commercial product resulting from Septentrio’s collaboration with Analog Devices, delivering robust positioning and attitude (heading, pitch and roll) in demanding industrial environments. Both single antenna and dual antenna versions are available, with the single-antenna variant designed for SWaP optimization and the dual antenna version being ideal for machines that need reliable heading as quickly as possible.

AsteRx-i D UAS features built-in state-of-the-art Advanced Interference Mitigation (AIM+) technology, which offers protection against electromagnetic radiation from other devices within a drone’s often crowded enclosure that can interfere with GNSS signals. This results in faster set-up times and robust continuous operation.

The receiver’s on-board Analog Devices IMU from Analog Devices features high resilience against mechanical vibrations. Combined with Septentrio’s anti-shock LOCK+ technology, this gives the AsteRx-i D UAS the ability to withstand high impact during takeoff and landing.

A spokesperson for Septentrio commented: “With this product we have introduced into our inertial-GNSS portfolio an IMU which allows us to reduce the weight and power consumption of our UAS boards while making them easier to integrate. These are all key elements for a successful UAV platform.”
