Fixed-wing UAS with wind and weather sensor

Anemoment has released a case study highlighting how its TriSonica Mini wind and weather sensor has been used by researchers at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to study the flash floods and severe thunderstorms that impact Arizona during the North American monsoon events.

The TriSonica Mini, an extremely compact and lightweight 3D ultrasonic anemometer, was mounted on a Sentaero VLOS fixed-wing UAS (unmanned aerial system) and used to actively sample the lower portion of the atmosphere boundary layer, which cannot be done safely with manned aircraft. The TriSonica Mini captures three-dimensional wind speed and direction, along with temperature, pressure, humidity, and time.

The TriSonica Mini was an extremely late addition to the challenging research project, and was used as a replacement for a multi-hole pressure probe on the UAV. The team at Embry-Riddle found the sensor to be highly reliable and very easy to integrate.

To find out more about the use of the TriSonica Mini wind and weather sensor for cutting-edge UAV-based meteorological research, read the full case study on Anemoment’s website.
