Take a look at our round-up of the five most read articles on UST this week, including new technologies, partnerships, events, and industry successes.
1. A2LE Platform Launched from MQ-20 Avenger UAS
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has demonstrated an inflight release of its Advanced Air-Launched Effects (A2LE) platform, releasing an A2LE from the internal weapons bay of a GA-ASI MQ-20 Avenger Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).
The demonstration took place in November 2023 over Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, capping a manufacturing, structural test, and flight demonstration.
2. How e-con Systems’ New 120dB Automotive HDR Camera Empowers Unmanned Vision Systems
e-con Systems, a leader in embedded vision technology with 20+ years of experience, recently launched the STURDeCAM31. This compact GMSL2 IP69K HDR camera is designed with a focus on providing high-quality visual data, which is crucial for the complex demands of unmanned technology.
The STURDeCAM31 is powered by a 1/2.42″ Sony® ISX031 sensor, which brings automotive-grade reliability. Its 3MP CMOS sensor, coupled with a finely calibrated Image Signal Processor (ISP), ensures crisp and clear image capture.
3. TEKEVER Deploys Lifeboat from AR5 Drone
TEKEVER has confirmed the successful deployment of a lifeboat from its AR5 drone as part of a search and rescue exercise conducted by the Italian Coast Guard, in partnership with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
With fully automatic operation, sensors onboard the drone enable the detection of vessels or humans on the water. Using artificial intelligence, the drone calculates the optimal time to release the lifeboat close to the vessel or person in distress without human intervention, enabling the lifeboat to be deployed at a close enough, but safe, distance.
4. Low-SWaP Continuous Zoom Lenses for MWIR Thermal Imaging Systems
Ophir Optronics has released the LightIR f/3.6 family of high-performance continuous zoom lenses, optimized for MWIR 640×512 VGA 10µm detectors and ideal for low-SWaP thermal imaging applications such as tactical UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) gimbals and payloads.
The new series of lightweight and compact lenses includes three models, with focal length ranges of 10-135 mm, 16-180 mm and 18-225 mm.
5. New BLDC Drone Motor Series Features Redundant Capabilities
Leading developer of tailored electric propulsion solutions Plettenberg has developed a new series of BLDC drone motors with a focus on redundancy and reliability.
Based on the company’s proven NOVA family of rugged inrunner motors, the NOVA X-Series features up to three redundant windings powered by up to three independent ESCs (electronic speed controllers).
