In an urgent response to the volcanic eruptions devastating the area around Grindavik, a picturesque fishing village in Iceland, Acecore Technologies in partnership with Vegagerdin, has been enlisted by Icelandic authorities for a critical mission.
Jorrit and Casper Linders, at the helm of Acecore Technologies and recognized for their advanced drone development skills, are navigating the challenges posed by nature’s might. The task at hand involves deploying their sophisticated drone technology to assess the aftermath of the eruptions that have already left a significant mark on the landscape, including the destruction of homes and a tragic incident involving a local rescue worker.
In the middle of uncertainty, the ground beneath Grindavik remains unstable, shifting daily and posing a constant threat to the team’s safety. Despite these dangers, the Linders brothers, equipped with their expertise and driven by a commitment to humanitarian aid, have ventured into the evacuated village, now a ghost town, to carry out their mission.
Acecore Technologies, a leader in drone manufacturing since 2016, has provided important support in these trying times, providing essential data through aerial surveys to aid in disaster response and recovery efforts.
The mission involves intricate operations, including the deployment of a newly developed Noa hybrid drone equipped with a fuel engine and ground-penetrating radar (GPR). Acecore made use of a Hybrid from their own stock to be deployed in Iceland, to support the electric Noa’s. Due to the time pressure of the mission, the hybrid was perfectly suited for this task thanks to its long endurance and efficiency. Good for 132 minutes of flight time with the 5.2 kg Radarteam Cobra GPR payload.
This cutting-edge technology allows the drone to remain airborne for extended periods, even in the harsh Icelandic conditions of sub-zero temperatures and high winds, to detect underground lava flows that pose unseen threats.
The dedication of Acecore Technologies to innovation and safety is evident as they adapt to the severe environment, ensuring the well-being of emergency services and the local community by providing crucial information from the skies.
The emotional toll of the mission is felt, especially in the search for a missing local rescuer, highlighting the profound impact of the disaster on the small community and the importance of the work being undertaken by the Acecore team.
Despite the unpredictable weather and the ever-changing landscape, the determination of Jorrit, Casper, and their team remains unwavering as they face the elements to fulfil their mission.
As they navigate the uncertain future of Grindavik, with talks of resettlement and the government’s efforts to prevent further tragedy, Acecore Technologies stands at the forefront of disaster response. Their work not only showcases the pivotal role of drone technology in crisis situations, but also underscores their commitment to supporting communities in distress.
The ongoing efforts in Iceland are a testament to Acecore Technologies’ dedication to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with unmanned aerial systems, embodying their mission to innovate and aid in the face of natural disasters. As they continue to map the area around Grindavik, their expertise and technology are not just tools for assessment but also a sign of hope for a community looking towards recovery.
