1. Underwater Robotic Technology Explores Ship Graveyard

Advanced Navigation recently sent the Hydrus drone to the treacherous depths of the Rottnest ship graveyard located in the Indian Ocean, just off the coast of Western Australia.

Upon unloading its data, the team was ecstatic to discover Hydrus had spotted a 64-metre shipwreck scattered across the seafloor.

Hydrus was able to reduce the surveying cost by up to 75%, enabling the team to conduct more frequent and extensive surveying of the wreck in a shorter time period. Its compact design (weighing around 7kg) eliminates the need for large vessels, complex launch systems and professional dive teams.

3. UAVOS Unmanned Helicopter Deployed for Wildfire Support

UAVOS Unmanned Helicopter Deployed for Wildfire Support

UAVOS has completed its first field deployment supporting wildfire suppression agencies with the UVH 170 unmanned helicopter.

UAVOS’ drone pilots were deployed day and night to gather timely data for situational awareness, ensuring high-quality data collection and providing geospatial data in real-time for fire mapping.

The UVH 170 unmanned helicopter gathered georeferenced data using visible-light cameras and thermal imaging cameras. The mission results established that the UAVOS’ Gimbal 201, which the UVH-170 UAS is equipped with, meets fire services criteria providing target sensitivity, accuracy, and data delivery based on the needs of fire operations.

5. Collaboration to Demo Onboard-Piloted Detect & Avoid Capabilities

For the past 2 years, Sagetech Avionics, Inc. has been partnering with Joby Aviation to study the role of on-board piloted Detect and Avoid (DAA) in support of Joby’s proposed enhanced Visual Flight Rules (eVFR) operations.

The core of the eVFR operating capability is the FAA’s next-generation collision avoidance algorithm for rotorcraft, ACAS Xr.  Sagetech’s ACAS Xr-based DAA system builds on the foundation of their TSO Authorized MXS transponder for use in crewed and uncrewed operations.
